Dim bɛn doré! (Kassem)

Heri ya mwaka mpya! (Swahili)

Happy new year!

2021 was a year full of ups and downs, uncertainty, and growth. Today marks just under the 1 year mark of when our small team of college freshmen got together during our winter break and started working on the Mandla app. While it has not been easy, we have all been passionately motivated by our mutual desire to preserve and promote the languages and cultures of Africa. Since officially launching our iOS and Android apps in December of this year, we have worked at a fast pace to cover 15 languages, including:

  • Yoruba

  • Mooré

  • Igbo

  • Swahili

  • Xhosa

  • Kassem

  • Kinyarwanda

  • Shona

  • Amharic

  • Twi

  • Mandinka

  • Oromo

  • Lingala

  • Haitian Creole

  • Bambara

While there is certainly a lot of work left to be done, I’m very proud of the progress this team has made and stay motivated every time we receive a message from one of you about what the app means to you and how it is positively impacting your lives. In 2022 Mandla will continue to improve our app based on your valuable feedback, tackle teaching indegenous African writing scripts, launch a social language learning feature, add more languages, tackle our goal of translating African languages, and more! Thank you all for your continued support and I wish you a Happy New Year!
